========== WEB SITE LINKS AND NEWS OF INTEREST ==========
News to Use: O'Reilly Increases Their User Group Discount - The long-standing
and very popular user group discount for O'Reilly, No Starch, Pragmatic Bookshelf,
SitePoint and Syngress has increased to 30 percent. Be sure to let your members
know.

---------
News to Use: New Switcher Site - User groups do a great job of getting the
word out about Apple products. Now, Apple has a site to help your members explain
the why, what and how of making the switch.
Simply take a Mac out of its box, plug it in and start surfing, working or
rocking. And when you want to add something new — such as a digital camera
or iPod — you just plug it in and start using it. Too good to be true?
No, the Mac is exactly that good.

BeLight Software Releases Image Tricks for Free - BeLight Software today releases
Image Tricks, a free image editor for Mac OS X 10.4 aka Tiger. The app lets
Tiger users apply the special effects earlier available only in advanced
image editors without intense learning curve. Image Tricks is based on Apple
Core Image filters and includes about 35 Image Units (blur, distortion, stylize
filters, tile effects and more). The app works like a charm for blistering-fast
image editing in real time. Image Tricks is also available as a plugin for
the updated versions of BeLight Software programs:

Spammer Spamming in name of Anti-Spam - If you recieve e-mails from an organisation
calling themselves "SPAMIS", or the "Strategic Partnership Against
Microsoft Illegal Spam". (www.spamis.biz), dismiss them as spam and please
report them to your ISP and/or SpamCop. A quick search on Google turns up plenty
of results, a few of which elaborate extensively on the subject. SPAMIS was "founded" by
Robert Soloway, a known and prolific spammer. Soloway is using the practice
of spamming in order to undermine Microsoft's user-validation technology --
which would close the spammers' access to MSN.com email users. The irony of
the issue is that Microsoft is trying to ram the technology down the throats
of internet ISPs which if successful would effectively put the internet under
MSN's control.
See: the ROKSO list (http://www.spamhaus.org/rokso/index.lasso) , and talkgold.com
(http://www.talkgold.com/forum/history/topic/22386-1.html).

Danny Espinoza and the team at Mesa Dynamics (http://www.mesadynamics.com/)
have released Amnesty Screensaver (http://www.mesadynamics.com/amnesty_saver.htm)
, a free screensaver application that animates your Dashboard widgets when
your Mac isn't in use. Not only does it look cool, but your widgets remain
fully functional and connected to the internet, so clocks update, stock quotes
refresh, etc. Amnesty , their software product that lets Widgets run in the
Finder, without Dashboard in both Tiger and Panther is available at http://www.mesadynamics.com/amnesty.htm

What Is NeoOffice/J (and Can It Replace MS Office) - NeoOffice/J is the long-awaited
Mac-friendly version of OpenOffice. This open source project provides Mac users
with most of the functionality of Microsoft Office, but for free. Is NeoOffice
robust enough to serve as your only office suite in a Microsoft-dominated world?
Matthew Russell explores. Plus, an in-depth interview with its lead developer,
Patrick Lubby.

========== HARDWARE SPOTLIGHT - APPLE'S MIGHT MOUSE ==========
Apple Mighty Mouse - Useful, innovative design, but also begs the price question
http://www.apple.com/mightymouse/
When is Apple going to come out with a two-button mouse?” Mac users have
been asking that question for so long that Apple’s introduction of the
multi-button Mighty Mouse is almost an anticlimax. If users seriously pined
for a right-button to access the Mac’s contextual menus (an ease-of-use
amenity that Windows users have long enjoyed), they probably abandoned Apple’s
stylish but less-functional one-button mouse a long time ago.
