We recently had reviewed quite a few software applications concerning genealogy at our MUG meeting, but, here is a book to check out as a follow up, "How To Do Everything With Your Genealogy". Anyone interested in discovering their family genealogy should carry a copy of this book everywhere. Written by internationally recognized expert, George G. Morgan, this book is an irreplaceable resource for beginner to expert knowledge gatherers. Not only does Morgan explain how to get the search started – creating a family tree, locating and evaluating documents, selecting the appropriate hardware and software for the search – he goes steps further and dedicates an entire section to research methods and strategies where he discusses, among other topics, getting past “dead ends,” and organizing possible research travel. With an entire chapter dedicated to expanding research horizons, and appendices covering up-to-date print and online resources, this is truly a comprehensive treatment of the tools necessary to conduct a successful genealogical search.

Class-Site is a program that aids the educator in creating and maintaining a classroom website for their individual class. It provides the educator with considerable flexibility in maintaining the website, yet with minimal time expenditure. Class-Site provides a consistent and easy-to-use interface for editing the website content.
Class-Site has advantages over other methods of creating websites
* no HTML
* no website design experience required
* no online forms
* minimal maintenance time
* editing page content does not require layout modification
* flexible page and section publishing options
* classroom websites are maintained locally
How Does It Work? Class-Site maintains a database for each educators individual classroom website. The educator manipulates the content of their classroom website database using a familiar Macintosh OS X user interface. When the changes are done, the teacher issues a single "Build Site" command, and voilà–the site is ready to use!

========== TIP OF THE MONTH: HOW TO AVOID PHISHING SCAMS ==========
" Phishing" is the fraudulent collection of personal financial data from unsuspecting consumers via e-mail and the Web. Scammers use "official" looking e-mail addresses and Websites to pose as legitimate financial institutions and service providers to trap consumers into entering their personal financial information.
For example, you might get an e-mail which looks like it's from your bank, telling you that if you don't update some information quickly, your account will be closed or a service charge will be assessed. But this e-mail asks you for account numbers, credit card numbers, account user names and passwords, your Social Security number, etc. And because it looks like it's from your bank (the same logo, links that work and take you to the bank's Website) and threatens a termination of service, you might hastily respond and provide the fraudster with the requested financial information. But remember - your bank or other service provider ALREADY HAS THIS INFORMATION.
Even such well-respected companies as Citibank, US Bank and MSN were all victims of phishing attacks in May.
You can minimize your risk by following these simple rules:
1. Be suspicious of any e-mail with *urgent* requests for personal financial information.
2. If you are at all suspicious, DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT THE COMPANY DIRECTLY - call the company or type the Website address in your browser, but don't use links from the e-mail.
3. Avoid filling out forms in e-mail messages that ask for personal financial information.
4. Always make sure the https:// is in the Website address; this indicates a secure site.
5. Report the suspicious e-mail to the following groups: the Federal Trade Commission (uce@ftc.gov), the "abuse" e-mail at the company that is being spoofed, the Internet Fraud Complaint Center of the FBI (www.ifccfbi.gov) and the Anti-phishing working group (reportphishing@antiphishing.org).

========== OS X TIP OF THE MONTH - USING GRAB ==========
Grab is a utility that lets you take pictures of what is visible on your monitor, called screen shots. This book is filled with thousands of screen shots. If you're a teacher, it's great to include screen shots in your handouts. If you're having trouble with something, you can send a screen shot to your favorite tech support person so they have a clearer idea of the problem. You can even use the Grab service to take a quick screen shot and drop it into an email or a TextEdit document.
To use Grab:
1. Double-click the Grab icon to open it.
2. To capture the entire screen, press Command Z. To capture a selected portion of the screen, press Command Shift A. You'll get a pointer, press-and-drag to select the area you want to capture.
When you let go, the new file will open instantly in Grab, waiting for you to save it.
With the Command-Shift-A procedure above, you cannot grab the pointer nor can you grab active windows - the windows are always in the background. You can't get pop-up menus, either. So to get one of these items, press Command Shift Z; you’ll get the message shown below, the "Timed Screen Grab." Hit Return to activate it, then go to the window, pop-up menu, dialog box, etc., that you want a screen shot of, put everything in position, and hold it until the timer goes off. The screen shot will open instantly in Grab.
